What is it?
Sophia App is a private, local-first journaling practice. It is designed around a simple constraint: one thought per session. By slowing down and capturing only what matters most, you begin to weave a digital garden of your own reflections over time.
Technical Architecture
Sophia App is built as a progressive web application (PWA) using Next.js. It leverages PGlite to provide a complete, embedded SQL database directly inside your browser. Because it operates entirely local-first, the software requires zero cloud syncing, meaning there is no backend server holding your data. The code runs offline after initial load, ensuring strict mathematical privacy by design.
Core Principles
Absolute Privacy
Your thoughts stay on your device — no accounts, no cloud storage of what you write. Sophia does collect anonymous, content-free usage signals (which step of a session you reached, session counts) to see whether the tool is working. See the Privacy Notice for specifics.
Recursive Growth
Instead of shouting into an infinite feed, Sophia asks you to connect today's thought with yesterday's. Insight grows from returning.

The deeper version
Sophia is named for Wisdom — in Gnostic cosmology, the figure whose fall into fragmentation and eventual return is the shape of the whole tradition. The app's architecture follows that same shape, translated into function: your raw entries are the Hylic layer (matter — private, local, simply stored), connecting two thoughts is the Psychic layer (soul — weaving fragments into a story), and the moments of silence are the Pneumatic layer (spirit — what's left when you stop adding words). None of this is required reading. It's just what the plain language above is actually standing on.
